Dr Randolph B. Persaud holds the B.A. (Hons.), M.A. and PhD in Political Science from York University, Toronto, Canada.
He is Adviser in the Office of the President, Professor Emeritus of IR at SIS, American University, Washington DC, and the first Director of the National Defence Institute. He has consulted with the U.S. State Department, Council on Foreign Relations, Carnegie Corporation, the UN, the World Bank, and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies. He was Assistant Director for the Centre for Int’l & Strategic Studies (Toronto), and Interim Director for the Council of the Americas. Professor Persaud was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Advanced International Theory at the University of Sussex. Before returning to Guyana, Professor Persaud was Vice President of the Faculty at SIS (the largest school of international affairs in the world). He was also elected president of the same faculty.
In addition to three books, he has published in top IR journals including – International Affairs; Globalizations, Third World Quarterly, Jour. of Dip. and Int’l Relations, Int’l Politics Reviews, Millennium, Cambridge Review of Int’l Affairs, Connecticut Journal of International Law, Race and Class, and Latin American Politics and Society. He currently sits on the editorial board of Third World Quarterly, where he also previously served an Academic Editor.
He has given talks or participated in conferences or other academic events at the numerous universities including UCLA, CUNY, SUNY, Georgetown, Brown, Tufts, Wake Forest, Howard, NYU, Johns Hopkins, LSE, UWI, Virginia Tech, Guelph, Carlton, McMaster, Chubu (Japan), Korea Univ., Queen’s (Belfast), and the universities of Chicago, Kentucky, Connecticut, Michigan, Sussex, Nottingham, Aberdeen, Warwick, Toronto, UG, Trento (Italy), IISS (Netherlands), National Chengchi (Taiwan), and City University of London.
